Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, May 7.

CSK End Losing Streak By Defeating KKR

CSK pipped defending champions KKR in a clutch final-over thriller at Eden Gardens. KKR batted first and hauled 179-6 from 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane top-scored in the innings with 48 runs from 33 balls, while Manish Pandey and Andre Russell unleashed valiant 30s in the slog overs. For CSK, overseas spinner Noor Ahmad unfurled the spell of the innings with figures of 4-31.

In response, CSK slipped to 60-5 courtesy of early strikes from Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy. However, Dewald Brevis clobbered 52 runs from just 25 balls to tilt the tide back in CSK’s favour. Shivam Dube also cracked a crucial 45, before captain MS Dhoni launched the match-defining six in the final over off Andre Russell as CSK ended its four-match losing streak with two wickets in hand.

India Women Beat SA To Qualify For Tri-Series Final

India Women outclassed South Africa by 23 runs in match five of the Women’s ODI tri-series in Colombo, qualifying for the final in the process. The Indian team mounted 337-9 from 50 overs upfront, courtesy of Jemimah Rodrigues’ career-best 123 and Deepti Sharma’s fiery 84-ball 93. Smriti Mandhana also compiled 51 runs at the top of the order.

In response, South Africa reached 314-7 from 50 overs, with captain Chloe Tryon’s blistering 43-ball 67 minimizing their defeat margin. Annerie Dercksen made 81 runs at a near run-a-ball, but Amanjot Kaur’s three-wicket haul and two wickets from Deepti Sharma proved too much to handle for the Proteas Women.

Rohit Sharma Announces Retirement From Tests

Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket, effective immediately. Having made his debut in November 2013, the legendary Indian opener played 67 Tests until the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series in Australia in December 2024.
