One of the finest T20 exports from South Africa, opening batter Faf du Plessis is still a beast with the bat even at the age of 40, where he led his ex-team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to playoffs in the 2024 season.

However, right before the mega-auction this year, the Bengaluru-based side decided to let Faf go as they went into the auction without retaining him. To everyone's further surprise, RCB did not even bother raising the paddle once for the stylish batter, who was eventually picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) at his base price of INR 2 Crores.

Making sense of the decision, the fans and ex-players were a bit surprised that they didn't go after their ex-skipper and were left with no answers as it seemed that the management wanted a complete overhaul of the squad, barring a few players.

Faf Goes To Instagram To Express His Feelings

Faf, the formidable opening partner to Virat Kohli, was one of the key players on the side for the last three years. The right-hander took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message along with a video for the RCB fans as he explained his equation with the city of Bengaluru and its people.

"As my chapter close with RCB I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible journey this has been. When I joined three years ago, I had no idea how this journey would unfold. But I fell in love with the city of Bengaluru and the amazing people of RCB," he said.

"This place and its people have become a part of who I am, and I'll carry these memories and the connections I've built with me forever. Thank you for making these three years so special."

Still unable to get over the fact that he will no longer be able to wear the red and black jersey again, du Plessis mentioned that playing at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was the most electrifying experience.

"Playing at the Chinnaswamy Stadium has been one of the most electric experiences of my career. The energy, the passion, and the support from the fans make it truly one of a kind. Every time I stepped onto that field, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical.

"As I say goodbye, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone. The fans, my teammates, the staff, the coaches and the owners. It's been an honor to be apart of this journey with you. Much love."

In the 2025 season, Faf would be seen donning the Capitals jersey for the first time and is likely to play as a backup player on the side, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and KL Rahul being the frontrunners for the opening slot.
