It was a redemption of sorts for India, who got the better of the Australian side in the first Test at Perth's Optus Stadium by 295 runs after getting hammered by the strong New Zealand side at home a month ago.
Led by the charismatic Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who arrived late due to the birth of his second child, India went into attack mode with the ball in the first innings, getting the opposition bowled out for a mere 104 after themselves struggling to bat first with just 150 on the board.
In the second innings, Indian batters extended their advantage courtesy of Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and KL Rahul (77), who rocked the Aussies from the core with their solid 201-run partnership at the top and then, veteran Virat Kohli guarding his territory with a breezy century.
In reply, Australia could only muster 238, with Travis Head (89) and Mitchell Marsh (47) going for a fight but failing and hence, handing India a win by a mammoth margin of 295 runs with Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj picking three each.
After the first Test, the Australian side will look to bounce back in the pink-ball Test when they face India in Adelaide from 5th December.
