Australian fast bowler Sean Abbott broke down in tears on the 10-year death anniversary of late Phillip Hughes. Turning up for New South Wales on Day 4 of their Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the competing players from both sides staged a minute-long silence to commemorate the memory of the deceased cricketer.
Following the silence, a visibly teary-eyed Abbott was spotted getting consoled by his colleagues as they were making their way out of the field.
It is worth noting that Hughes collapsed on the pitch after getting struck on the unprotected area of his neck by a sharp bouncer from New South Wales pacer Abbott, at the SCG no less. The incident occurred back in November 2014 during a Sheffield Shield game, when Hughes was just three days shy of turning 26.
Sean Abbott consoled on Hughes death anniversary
Sean Abbott got teary eyed on the death anniversary of former Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes, who passed away after getting struck on the neck by the fast bowler during a Sheffield Shield match from November 2014.
Phillip Hughes played 26 Tests for Australia since making his debut against South Africa at Johannesburg in February 2009. In his first match for Australia, he scored a fighting 75 against the likes of Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel to help his team claim the Test by 162 runs.
Hughes also played 25 ODI matches between January 2013 and October 2014, and his lone T20I appearance for Australia came at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium against Pakistan in October 2014, i.e., mere weeks before his shock demise.
