Baroda and Tamil Nadu gave cricket fans a game to remember in the Group B clash of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25in Indore. Baroda chased down a huge 222-run target with nerves of steel, thanks to Hardik Pandya’s stunning knock and Atit Sheth’s dramatic last-ball four.

Tamil Nadu Sets a Mountain to Climb

After winning the toss, Tamil Nadu decided to bat first. Baba Indrajith got things rolling quickly before getting bowled for 25. Narayan Jagadeesan stepped up and smashed 57 off 32 balls, keeping Tamil Nadu on the front foot. The runs didn’t stop there. Boopathi Kumar chipped in with a solid 28, while skipper Shahrukh Khan hammered 39 off 25, including two big sixes.

Just when it seemed Baroda might pull things back, Vijay Shankar showed his class. His unbeaten 42 off 22 balls alongwith Mohammed Mohammed’s quickfire 15 off 6, helped Tamil Nadu cross 220. Tamil Nadu ended with a massive 221/6, putting all the pressure on Baroda’s batters.

For Baroda, Lukman Meriwala was the standout bowler with 3/41. Krunal Pandya kept things tidy with 1/26, but the rest of the bowlers had a tough day.

Hardik Pandya’s Heroics Bring Baroda Back Into The Game

Baroda’s chase didn’t start well. Mitesh Patel fell early for just 18, and Ninad Rathva followed soon after, leaving Baroda wobbling at 66/3. Bhanu Pania tried to steady the ship with a quick 42 off 20 balls, but Tamil Nadu kept chipping away with wickets.

That’s when Hardik Pandya took matters into his own hands. Walking in with the required rate climbing, Hardik didn’t waste time. He smashed 69 runs off just 30 balls, clearing the ropes seven times.

It was classic Hardik—power, and big hits when the team needed it the most. His partnership with Krunal Pandya kept Baroda in the hunt, but with wickets falling around him, the game hung in the balance.

Atit Sheth Delivers The Knockout Punch

Hardik’s dismissal in the 19th over made things tense. Baroda needed 10 runs off the final six balls. Atit Sheth, under all that pressure, stayed calm. The final over was all about nerves.
