South Africa's explosive top-order batter Faf du Plessis was sold to Delhi Capitals for his base price of 2 Crores in the ongoing IPL 2025 mega auction. The former Proteas skipper initially didn't attract any bidder before the Capitals decided to raise the paddle for him at the very last moment.
As the Capitals secured his services, the auctioneer asked RCB if they would use the Right To Match (RTM) for the swashbuckling opener. However, despite Du Plessis performing admirably for them, the Royal Challengers didn't use the RTM for him. As the Proteas captain joins the Capitals camp, here are three reasons why RCB didn't use the RTM card for him.
Why Did RCB Not Use RTM Card For Faf du Plessis?
RCB's Top Order sorted with Kohli-Salt Likely To Open
- Yesterday, RCB secured the services of Phil Salt, forming a lethal opening pair consisting of him and Virat Kohli.
- As they have already formed their opening combination, it was sensible from RCB's end to not use the RTM for Faf du Plessis.
RCB Save RTM Card For Will Jacks
- As RCB already have formed their opening pair, they will likely use the RTM for Will Jacks and slot him at number three in their playing XI.
- Apart from batting at number three, Jacks can chip in with a few overs of off-spin in Bengaluru. So, his comeback holds significance for RCB, as he ensures balance in the side.
Faf du Plessis' Age And Form
- Faf du Plessis is on the wrong side of the 30s and has retired from international cricket. So, given that he is not an active cricketer anymore and has struggled with poor form of late, it wouldn't have made sense had RCB used the RTM card for him.
