Heinrich Klaasen ended a tough season for Sunrisers Hyderabad on a high note by smashing a brilliant 37-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 25, 2025. Post-match, the batter made it clear that he doesn’t care much about what position he bats in.

Klaasen came in to bat at No. 3 during the 7th over after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed. With the powerplay over and a solid start by the openers, he made full use of the platform.

He reached his half-century in only 17 balls and didn’t slow down after Travis Head, who also played a strong knock of 76, got out.

Heinrich Klaasen Downplays the Importance Of Batting Position

The South African wicketkeeper-batter scored an unbeaten 105 off just 39 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes, helping SRH post a massive 278/3 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

In a post-match interview, Heinrich Klaasen opened up on his changing batting position and said that he prefers batting just after the powerplay, as he can better judge the ball’s length and pace in that phase.

"I’m a situation player, that's the idea in the dugout. If we lose a wicket after the powerplay or just at the end of the powerplay, then I just go in. If we lose a wicket earlier, then it doesn’t quite work out. For me, it’s just a number, it all depends on the team situation," Klaasen told media (via SportsTak).

Klaasen added that he worked hard in the nets after struggling with length judgment in earlier games.

"The franchise spends a lot of money on this. We had a bad start and middle, we fought to turn it around in the last three games. Nice to give something back to them. There was individual pride as well. I didn't go on in a few games, did so tonight. Plan was to go straight on this ground. I got my trajectory better, didn't take on too many fielders. Pleased with that. I worked a lot on judging length, it's getting me out a couple of times, so I've had to work on it in the nets a lot. After the powerplay is when I'd ideally go, but I get paid to do well whenever I go in," he added.

Although SRH couldn’t make the playoffs, Klaasen stood out. He was the team’s top run-scorer this season, with 487 runs from 13 matches at an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 172.69.

SRH had retained Klaasen for INR 23 crore before the season, making him their most expensive player, even more than captain Pat Cummins. His final knock of the season proved why the franchise invested so heavily in him.

How Many Records Did Klaasen Break Vs DC?

Heinrich Klaasen hit a 37-ball century off KKR, shattering several records in IPL 2025. It was the joint-third fastest ton in IPL history and the quickest ever by an SRH player. His 105* consisted of nine sixes, the highest by an SRH batsman in one innings. It was also Klaasen's highest T20 individual score. SRH's 278/3 was the third-highest in IPL history to end their season in style.
