Snehasish Ganguly, elder brother of former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had a narrow escape while performing water sports in Odisha along with his wife Arpita. Both Snehasish and Arpita had their speedboat capsized at Puri beach, with the latter alleging that the boat was light due to a lesser capacity of passengers.

A viral video circulating on social media shows that their speedboat was turned upside down, prompting lifeguards to rescue the tourists. The officials also used rubber floats for rescue.

Sourav Ganguly’s kin survive boat scare in water sports

Arpita Ganguly, wife of Snehasish Ganguly and sister-in-law of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, blamed the authorities for negligence for safety of tourists by prioritising money. She said that even though the boat had the capacity of 10 passengers, they agreed to take off with just three or four people on board with the greed for money.

As reported by NDTV, Arpita explained that the boat they took was the last boat to go into the sea for the day, and the couple had initially raised their concerns over safety. She said that their boat was struck by a huge wave in the sea, and they would not have survived if not for lifeguards’ timely arrival.

Arpita Ganguly further urged the government to ban the water sports in Puri beach, since the beach has a “very rough sea”.
