Marizanne Kapp is set to rejoin South Africa’s white-ball squads for their upcoming tour of the West Indies following a break from the Sri Lanka tri-series in April-May. Kapp, who last featured in the Women’s Premier League in March after her December appearances against England, has completed a two-month conditioning phase.
Key Returns and Squad Additions Alongside Kapp's Return
Notably, The Proteas have also welcomed back seamers Tumi Sekhukhune and Ayanda Hlubi, expanding their pace attack to seven. Leg-spinner Seshnie Naidu and batter Lara Goodall have been omitted, with Goodall’s exclusion notable despite Anneke Bosch’s continued absence due to ongoing illness recovery.
The tour, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is from June 11-23 at Barbados’ Three Ws Oval, sees 17-year-old wicketkeeper Karabo Meso retaining her spot alongside Sinalo Jafta. South Africa’s spin department includes Nonkululeko Mlaba, Nondumiso Shangase, allrounders Chloe Tryon, Sune Luus, and Miane Smit, who may debut in T20Is.
Mandla Mashimbyi Confident On Squad
This marks head coach Mandla Mashimbyi’s first T20I assignment since taking charge in December, with the ODIs prioritized as World Cup preparation. The team aims to rebound after a disappointing tri-series in Sri Lanka, where they lost three of four matches.
Mashimbyi remained optimistic about the team’s growth, emphasizing lessons from the challenging Sri Lanka tour. "Sri Lanka was tough, but we took a lot of positives out of that, and whatever gaps we've picked up, we want to make sure that we brush up on them," he said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
With a focus on refining combinations and managing fatigue from Sri Lanka’s extreme conditions, the Caribbean fixtures offer critical preparation. All matches will be held at the Three Ws Oval, testing adaptability to consistent conditions as they build toward their World Cup campaign.
