India’s number 11 batter Mohammed Siraj, who hung around for over an hour to frustrate the Englishmen during his 30-ball stay at the crease, became the last man to get out as the hosts took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Speaking ahead of the fourth Test, Siraj reflected India’s defeat and vowed his batting redemption going forward alongside fellow tailender Jasprit Bumrah.
Mohammed Siraj Reflects Lord’s Defeat, Hails Jadeja
While speaking with the reporters at a press conference ahead of India’s fourth Test of the series against England, Mohammed Siraj said that he felt gutted after failing to take his team past the finishing line at Lord’s.
The premier fast bowler also praised all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who scored the lone half-century for Team India in the run-chase. Siraj further vowed to make improvements to his batting, claiming that he and other tailenders are already grinding out in the nets. Mohammed Siraj said:
“I felt bad for a long time. I am an emotional person. If we would have won, we could have been 2-1 up. Jaddu bhai played so well, Bumrah bhai did so well. But now we, the lower order batters, are batting in the nets.”
As it happened, Team India slipped to 147-9 on Day 5 at Lord’s in a chase of 193 runs. After the dismissal of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj formed forces with half-centurion Ravindra Jadeja at the crease as the two cricketers batted for over 60 minutes to add another 23 runs to the total.
However, Siraj was eventually dismissed by Shoaib Bashir after the tailender failed to take backspin into account.
Nonetheless, Team India will now face hosts England in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester between July 23 and July 27.
