It's confirmed, Jasprit Bumrah is set to play in the 4th Test vs England at Old Trafford. The development was given by pace bowling partner, Mohammed Siraj, in the pre-game press conference. Before the match, there were doubts over Bumrah's participation, but all the doubts were put to bed as Siraj made the announcement.
Bumrah's availability, a big relief for India
Even before the start of the series, reports added that Bumrah was set to feature in only three of the five Tests on the tour. He had already missed the Edgbaston Test match, and there were doubts that he could miss the next Test as well. However, now it seems the Oval Test is where the Indian pacer will take rest.
"Jassi bhai to khelege. Combination is changing but we need to bowl in good areas. Plan is simple - stick to good areas," Siraj said, as quoted by Sahil Malhotra, TOI Correspondent.
Indian fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Bumrah's availability comes in as a major boost as the team is aiming to bounce back from the heartbreaking loss at Lord's. The visitors are down, 1-2 in the series, and the Old Trafford Test provides them with a chance to win their first-ever red-ball game at this venue.
Akash Deep doubtful for 4th Test
While Bumrah's confirmation is a blessing in disguise for India, Siraj also shared an injury update on Akash Deep, and it doesn't look promising. As per the Indian pacer, Akash Deep had a groin injury, and a call on his participation will be taken by the team physio.
"Akash Deep has a groin issue, he bowled today and now physios will see," Siraj added.
If Akash Deep misses out, India have a huge problem on their hands. Arshdeep Singh is ruled out, Prasidh Krishna is out of form, and that leaves India with just one option to replace Akash Deep - Anshul Kamboj. The Haryana pacer flew to UK, and as per reports, he is likely to make his Test debut at Manchester, on Wednesday.
