Bangladesh thumped Pakistan by seven wickets in the first T20I on Sunday, July 20 to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing 111 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon compiled an unbeaten 56 off 39 balls as the hosts cruised past their target with more than four overs to spare.
After the match, winning captain Litton Das bragged about his team’s comfort zone in Mirpur as Bangladesh looks to close out the series at the very same venue in the upcoming second T20I.
Litton Das Claims Dew Made It Easier To Chase
While speaking during the post-match presentation, Bangladesh captain Litton Das said that his team was already familiar with the difficult-to-bat conditions of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The cricketer further claimed that dew made it easier for them to bat in the run-chase against Pakistan bowlers. He said:
“The wicket was something we know well because we've played a lot of cricket in Mirpur. It's not an easy wicket to bat on, but the way we batted, it looked good. In the second innings, the ball came nicely because of the dew, probably.”
In a stark contrast, the Pakistani team contingent slammed the Mirpur pitch, with head coach Mike Hesson describing the surface “unacceptable” for international cricket.
BAN vs PAK 1st T20I As It Happened
Pakistan batted first and folded up for just 110 in less than 20 overs. After reaching a sluggish powerplay score of 41-4, Pakistan’s middle-order failed to lead their team to recovery, with only opener Fakhar Zaman managing to list a notable score with his 34-ball 44.
For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed unfurled the spell of the innings with figures of 3-22. Mustafizur Rahman also claimed match-winning figures of 2-6 from his four overs. Parvez Hossain Emon led Bangladesh’s run-chase with an elegant 56*-run knock as the hosts secured an easy seven-wicket win.
Bangladesh and Pakistan will now face each other in the second ODI of the series at the same venue on Tuesday, July 22.
