Taijul Islam has become Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in the Test format, as he overtook Shakib Al Hasan to lead the charts. The former Test cricketer has now congratulated Taijul on his achievement.

The 33-year-old overtook Shakib’s record of 246 Test wickets during the fourth day of the ongoing match between Bangladesh and Ireland. Playing at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Taijul had already picked up four wickets on Day 3 and reached the milestone with the wicket of Andy Balbirnie on Day 4. It took him just 56 matches to get there, while Shakib took 71.

While sharing his message for the left-arm spinner, Shakib also predicted his future in the long format of the game. He believes that Taijul can even get 400 wickets by the time he is done with Test cricket.

"Congratulations Taijul. I can see you get to 400 Test wicket by the time you finish your career. Good luck," Shakib wrote in a Facebook post.

Taijul is an important part of the team, says batting coach Mohammad Ashraful

Bangladesh's batting coach Mohammad Ashraful said that while Taijul is the current best player that they have, Shakib was one of the greatest during his playing days. Adding to it, he said that Taijul is a very important player for them, especially in the Asia conditions.

"I would say that whoever played in their time was the best. Taijul is the best now. Rafique bhai was the best in his time. Shakib is world-class… Taijul's importance is very high, especially when playing in Asia. Everyone sees it that way," he said.
