Bangladesh completed a dominant all-round performance to beat Ireland by 217 runs in the second Test at the Shere Bangla Stadium. With another landslide victory, the Tigers completed a clean sweep.
The match again saw Bangladesh post a brilliant batting display, while Ireland struggled once more to adapt to conditions and tackle the spinners.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das starred in the first inning with dual tons
The match began with Bangladesh winning the toss and making full use of batting-friendly conditions. After an early wobble, Mominul Haque (63) steadied the innings alongside Mushfiqur Rahim, who played a classic, patient knock of 106.
The momentum shifted firmly in Bangladesh’s favour when Litton Das took charge, scoring a fluent 128 off 192 balls.
Useful contributions from Mehidy Hasan Miraz (47) and late runs from the lower order helped Bangladesh post a massive 476. For Ireland, Andy McBrine impressed with 6 wickets, the lone bright spot in a long day for the bowlers.
Ireland fail to build partnerships
Ireland’s reply started shakily. Early wickets fell, and the visitors were reduced to 94/5. However, Lorcan Tucker showed grit with a patient 75 not out, finding support from Stephen Doheny (46) and Jordan Neill (49).
Despite the resistance, Ireland were bowled out for 265, with Taijul Islam (4/76) leading Bangladesh’s spin charge. The hosts secured a handy first-innings lead of 211 runs.
Bangladesh tighten its grip with a huge lead
In their second innings, Bangladesh batted with intent to put the game beyond Ireland’s reach. Mahmudul Hasan Joy (60) and Shadman Islam (78) gave a solid start before Mominul added another vital innings with 87.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 53, guiding the team to 297 for 4 before the declaration. With a huge target of 509 set, Ireland’s task looked near impossible.
Ireland collapse as Bangladesh register a landslide victory
In the chase, Ireland showed more fight. Curtis Campher played one of the most determined knocks of his career, staying unbeaten on 71 off 259 balls in a marathon effort to save the match.
Harry Tector (50) and Gavin Hoey (37) chipped in, but the required rate and scoreboard pressure always kept them on the back foot.
Bangladesh’s spinners once again took control, with Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam picking up four wickets each.
Eventually, Ireland were bowled out for 291, handing Bangladesh a 217-run victory.
With this 217-run victory, Bangladesh have whitewashed Ireland with a 2-0 finish to this Test series.
