In a phenomenal achievement, Taijul Islam surpassed Shakib Al Hasan to become Bangladesh's leading wicket-taker in Test cricket. The left-arm spinner attained the remarkable feat in the ongoing Test between Bangladesh and Ireland at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

After restricting Ireland to 265 runs, Bangladesh raced to 297 for four in 69 overs, declaring their second innings and setting a daunting target of 509 runs for the tourists. In response, Ireland lost an early wicket, with Taijul dismissing Andrew Balbirnie for 13 runs. 

Thus, the veteran cricketer went past Shakib Al Hasan and registered the most wickets for Bangladesh in Test cricket.

As evidenced by the above stats, Taijul Islam currently sits at the top with 248 Test wickets, while Shakib follows him in second. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is third on the list, having already bagged 209 wickets. 

Taijul has been a potent force to reckon with the ball, especially on home soil. Before adding the historic milestone to his kitty, the left-arm spinner rattled Ireland with a four-wicket haul in the first innings. 

Regarding the match, Ireland are staring at an inevitable defeat, courtesy of Bangladesh's incredible performance with bat and ball. After getting rid of Balbirnie, Taijul outfoxed Paul Stirling in the eighth over of the innings. As of writing, Ireland were 33 for two, with Cade Carmichael and Harry Tector batting on 3* and 4*, respectively.
