Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his admirations for Australian power-hitter Tim David. The 29-year-old has been in blistering touch for Australia of late, producing a flurry of match-defining innings against West Indies and South Africa with his fearless ball-striking down the order.
A former Singapore cricketer and a veteran of nearly 300 T20 games, David has carved out a reputation so imposing that it recently earned him Ashwin’s glowing label as “the future of T20s,” a tag befitting his knack for turning games with a few audacious swings.
Ashwin Claims He Urged IPL Franchises To Pick Tim David
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin recently made an explosive claim regarding Tim David’s IPL career. The legendary all-rounder stated that he urged a couple of decision makers in the IPL to pick up David at the auction, only for all those bigwigs to reject his idea by citing the Australian cricketer’s supposed flailing track record.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin added that “six feet-plus” and hard-hitting players like Tim David are the “future of T20s”. He said:
“I shouldn’t say this, but I told a couple of decision makers, asked them to pick Tim David. They were like, ‘No, his game has fallen apart.’ I’ll repeat, the future of T20s, six feet-plus players, long levers, strong players, are going to rule the roost.”
Tim David was picked up by the RCB franchise in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year for Rs. 3 crores in the accelerated round. In nine innings of the tournament, he bludgeoned 187 runs at a prolific average of 62.33 and with an explosive batting strike rate of 185.14.
Post IPL 2025, Tim David starred in Australia’s 5-0 sweep over West Indies in the Caribbean, plundering a match-winning ton in one of the games at Basseterre. Even against South Africa at home, the lanky middle-order batter has smeared successive half-centuries in Darwin.
