The cricket world has seen some daring cricket rivalries, as these added extra spark to the game. One of such rivalries is England-Australia, which took the red-ball drama to another level in the prestigious Ashes.
As the thrilling Test series is scheduled in November 2025, the rivalry has already fired up. After David Warner took a jab at Joe Root’s woes, the English great came up with a sharp reply.
Root’s Sharp Reply On Warner’s Dig
The Ashes, cricket’s most famous contest between England and Australia, has excited fans for years. The rivalries often go beyond the field. This time, the tension started even before the series kicked off. During the Test series between England and India, Aussie Great David Warner took a jab at Joe Root’s problem against Josh Hazlewood with his ‘surfboard’ remark. That remark fueled their rivalry.
After a while, Joe Root addressed Warner’s remark. Speaking to Sky Sports, Root said he has no control over what others say and dismissed the comment as irrelevant.
“Just that. I can't have any control on how people see the game or talk in an interview. Nothing new, is it? You know there are going to be storylines and people wanting to hype up a big series. Doesn't really change anything. It's sort of irrelevant to me. What can I do about it? Just make sure it's not a talking point in six months or 100 days' time. ,” Root said.
Will Lord’s Set The Stage For A Warner-Root Showdown?
Adding to this, the duo will meet each other on the grand stage of The Hundred 2025 when the London Spirit will face the Trent Rockets at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. When asked about the much-talked-about clash, Joe Root brushed it off with a smile, calling it all 'part of the fun.'
“I don't think so. I guess it is all part of the fun, right? We will see what happens, but it is not really in my nature to get too verbal,” Root added.
As the Ashes is commencing in November 2025, Joe Root’s stats on the Australian soil is raising eyebrows. With an average of 35.68, along with nine half-centuries, Root is yet to score a century and win a match against their arch-rivals. As a new opportunity is on the way, Root will be determined to rewrite the numbers and finally leave his mark against their fiercest rivals.
