Former South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell has revealed his ultimate One-Day International playing XI, featuring a strong Asian influence with three players each from India and Pakistan. Parnell opted for a formidable opening pair of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, the format's all-time leading run-scorer, and his stylish compatriot Hashim Amla.

While speaking in an exclusive interview with Crictracker, the former cricketer shared the dream roster that featured an Asia-heavy squad. Let's take a look at Parnell's dream ODI Playing XI.

MS Dhoni To Captain World's Best ODI Playing XI!

After the opening pair of Tendulkar and Hashim Amla, Parnell revealed that the middle order boasts former Royal Challengers Bengaluru teammates Virat Kohli at number three, followed by the dynamic AB de Villiers at four.

Parnell rounded out his batting lineup with Australia's Michael Hussey at five and India's World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni at six, naming Dhoni as skipper. Pakistan's explosive all-rounder Shahid Afridi occupies the number seven slot.

Parnell's All-Time ODI Playing XI:

  • Sachin Tendulkar
  • Hashim Amla
  • Virat Kohli
  • AB de Villiers
  • Michael Hussey
  • Shahid Afridi
  • MS Dhoni (C)
  • Wasim Akram
  • Brett Lee
  • Muttiah Muralitharan
  • Waqar Younis

Nevertheless, looking by the numbers, Wayne Parnell’s all-time ODI XI features a star-studded top order led by Sachin Tendulkar, whose unmatched 18,426 runs and 49 centuries are paired with Hashim Amla’s near-50 average and fluent stroke play from South Africa’s golden era.

Virat Kohli, the record-holder for 51 ODI hundreds, and AB de Villiers, the only batsman with both a 50-plus average and a 100+ strike rate among those with 5,000+ runs, form a formidable No. 3-4 pairing. The middle order boasts Michael Hussey’s consistency (48.15 average) and MS Dhoni’s leadership, highlighted by the 2011 World Cup win and a career average of 50.57.

Shahid Afridi adds firepower as an explosive all-rounder. Parnell’s bowling attack is dominated by Asian greats, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Muttiah Muralitharan, alongside Australian speedster Brett Lee. Together, this XI blends legendary batting, match-winning all-round skills, and one of the most feared bowling line-ups in ODI history.
