The most anticipated Test tour of the year is just around the corner, as Rohit Sharma's Team India is set to travel to Australia for a gruelling 5-match series, starting from November 22 at the iconic Perth.

India have psychological edge over Australia

Interestingly, Australia have not defeated India in a Test series since 2014, and the last two time India travelled to Australia, they were the victorious side, winning the series with a margin of 2-1 (both times).

India have the psychological edge over the home team, and will be looking to exploit it in the upcoming series, which could potentially decide the fate of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

Though, Australia won the most important battle of the two teams - WTC final in 2023, ex-India chief selector, Chetan Sharma reckons that India are the firm favourites and will make the Australian side run in their own backyard.

"There was a time when we used to think about what would happen when we went to Australia. How will we perform? And for the last two tours, we went to Australia and beat them. Previously, Australia used to take us lightly but now they know they have to play out of their skins to beat India. We have built that reputation.

We are currently the No.1-ranked team in the world. We will not only will give them a tough fight but we will make them run in their own backyard (hum unko bhagaynge unke hi ghar mein). I have a lot of confidence in the players," said Sharma to RevSportz.

Bowlers will be the trump card: Chetan Sharma

Chetan Sharma was the chief selector, the last time India toured Australia in 2020, and believes that the Indian bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah will be the trump card on the Australian tour.

On the last two tours, the Indian bowlers have been exceptional, and will once again hold the key as the Rohit Sharma led side look to make a hat-trick of series win, Down Under.

"I have said multiple times that bowlers will win you Test matches. Right now, Tea India has the best bowling attack in the world. We have always had good batters. At times, in foreign conditions, you get pitches when teams get bowled out for 250-260. Do you have the bowling attack to get them out? We have seen it in recent times that we have bowlers to bowl the opposition out for even 150. Our bowlers are our trump card," Sharma added.

Both India and Australia are on top of the WTC points table, and there is a great chance that the two sides will also collide in the WTC finals, set to take place in June 2025. This will be the first time since early 1990s that India will play 5-Tests in Australia.
