Australia's former captain and legendary batter Ricky Ponting has backed the hosts to win the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. This time, the Border-Gavaskar trophy will comprise five Tests and will be conducted on Australian soil during November-December this year. 


Ponting predicts Australia to win BGT 2024-25

Meanwhile, the cricketing icon thinks Australia will comprehensively defeat India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. 

Speaking to ICC, Ponting stated it would be a competitive series, considering India's recent exploits on Aussie soil. 

Having said that, he predicted the score would be in favour of the hosts, expecting them to swat aside the visitors by 3-1. 

"It's going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia's got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what's happened the last the last two series here," Ponting said. 

"I don't know if there'd be too many drawn games. I'm obviously going to tip Australia to win and I'm never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I'm going to say 3-1 to Australia," he added. 

Regarding the WTC points table, India and Australia are adjacent, claiming the top two spots. So, the BGT 2024-25 will be crucial in determining the table-toppers going forward.
