With just a few months to go before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), former cricketers are stirring the pot with bold predictions and sharp rebuttals.

The latest salvo in this pre-series banter comes from Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, who has delivered a potent counter to Ricky Ponting's audacious prediction of a 3-1 Australian victory.

With the Indian cricket team gearing up for their November tour of Australia, tensions are running high, and Sunil Gavaskar's remarks only add to the intrigue.

Gavaskar’s Critical Analysis of Australia’s Batting

In a recent column for Mid-Day, Gavaskar took aim at Australia’s batting lineup, which will be notably missing David Warner. The legendary Indian cricketer pointed out that Australia's opening and middle-order problems could spell trouble.

“With their opening batting problems exacerbated after the retirement of David Warner and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again,” Gavaskar wrote.

He also highlighted the challenges posed by the congested cricket calendar, noting that the lack of proper first-class games could hinder India’s preparation.

Gavaskar acknowledged the difficulties of fitting practice games into the tight schedules of modern cricket. Despite this, he remains optimistic about India’s chances.

“It’s going to be an exciting series for sure with the talent that is there on both sides, and it will also show why Test match cricket is the ultimate format of our beloved game,” he concluded with a bold prediction of a 3-1 win for India.

Ricky Ponting's Huge Prediction Ahead Of BGT

Ricky Ponting, on the other hand, stands firm in his belief that Australia will emerge victorious. Speaking on the ICC Review show, Ponting maintained his stance: “I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia.”

He emphasised the advantages of home soil and hinted at a likely draw due to weather conditions.
