The chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced the 15-man squad on Tuesday for the upcoming ICC World Cup. While there were discussions about who would be picked for the middle order, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav made the cut.

On the other hand, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson (reserve player), who were a part of the Asia Cup have been left out. Rahul, who is coming back from injury, is yet to play a game. He has joined the team in Sri Lanka and will be featuring in the Super 4s stage of the tournament.

There have been discussions about who will be making it to the playing eleven between Rahul and Ishan Kishan. With Ishan being in his purple patch, the team cannot afford to bench him. On the other hand, Rahul has been excellent at number five and has all the experience to be in the team.

The former Indian cricketer and the 2011 World Cup winner, Piyush Chawla believes that Shreyas Iyer's place should be questioned too. As KL Rahul will be in the team because of the experience he has and the team cannot ignore the man in form.

Piyush Chawla questions Shreyas Iyer's place in the Playing XI

"We are talking about both of them, why not Shreyas Iyer? Shreyas Iyer’s place should also be questioned. Ishan cannot remain in the reserves now because of the way he has batted in the top order."

Chawla further added, "So he is straightaway a walk-in for me. If we talk about KL Rahul, his track record is so good and he has done so well over the years."

Even in the press conference, Agarkar and Rohit hinted that they can play both Ishan and Rahul which will eventually eliminate Iyer from being in the playing 11.
