India's World Cup Squad: KL Rahul Retains Place; Samson, Tilak, Krishna Miss Out

Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, and BCCI's Chairman of Selector, Ajit Agarkar, attended a press conference on Tuesday to announce a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, to be held in India. KL Rahul has got a surprise entry to the squad, whereas Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna who been excluded from the Indian lineup.

Indian core players -- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav -- have selected themselves on their own, whereas, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill,  and Shardul Thakur are all set to make into the final 15.

KL Rahul, who hasn't played any professional fixture since his injury sustained in the IPL, has been included into the World Cup squad despite missing the group stage fixture of the Asia Cup 2023. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has been named as the other keeper-batter.

Interestingly, Yuzvendra Chahal - who was also omitted from India's touring party for the Asia Cup 2023 - has again overlooked by the selection panel, with Axar Patel, Kuldeep and Jadeja preferred as the three specialist spinners.

Despite grabbing his limited opportunities in the ODI format, Sanju Samson has failed to bag his World Cup berth as Suryakumar Yadav has been picked over the keeper-batter.
