In a significant shift at the helm of Indian cricket, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been named the new head coach of the Indian team.

The announcement by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah marked the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure following the victorious T20 World Cup 2024.

Jacques Kallis reflects on Gambhir's appointment

Gautam Gambhir, a stalwart of Indian cricket, steps into these big shoes, promising a fiery and aggressive coaching style.

The cricket fraternity has reacted positively to this development, with former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis praising Gambhir's cricketing intellect.

"It's great to see Gautam getting into the coaching side of things. He's got a really good cricket brain. He'll bring some fire and loves playing the game aggressively. I think he'll bring that added touch, and the guys will certainly learn a lot from him," Kallis said.

"He's got a lot to add and will bring significant value to that Indian side. I wish him all the best but not too much against us, but I'm sure he'll do a fantastic job," he added.

Kallis to succeed Gambhir as KKR mentor?

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are on the hunt for Gambhir's replacement following his departure to take up the national coaching role.

Under Gambhir's mentorship, KKR recently clinched their third IPL title, breaking a decade-long trophy drought.

Speculation is rife that Kallis, who has a longstanding association with KKR as a player and coach, may once again join the franchise in a mentoring capacity.

Kallis served KKR between 2011 and 2014 as a player and took on the head coach role in 2015, besides being a batting consultant.

Meanwhile, as Gambhir takes on his new role with hopes of charting a successful course for Indian cricket, the transition signals a new era for both the national team and KKR, each looking to forge paths laden with victories and achievements under new guidance.
