'He Is Unsure Of...,' Kamran Akmal Reveals Why Babar Azam Struggled Vs Bangladesh

Former Pakistani keeper-batter Kamran Akmal highlighted the technical flaws in Babar Azam's batting following his failure in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Known for his elegant stroke play, Babar had a horrible time with the bat, failing to score a single fifty in the Bangladesh home series.

The right-handed batter let his team down on multiple occasions and received massive backlash for his mediocre performance. After managing only 22 runs in the first Test, Babar contributed 42 runs across both innings of the decider.

Hailed for his ability to tackle fast bowling, Babar was dismissed thrice by Bangladesh seamers. His persistent struggle against the visiting pacers raised serious question marks on his batting technique.

Kamran Akmal, a vital member of Pakistan's 2009 T20 World Cup-winning team, reckoned that Babar was unsure of his off stump, leading to his dismal performance in the Bangladesh series. He also stated that Babar's failure to judge the line of the ball was one of the primary reasons behind his prolonged rough patch.

“He is unsure of himself and his off-stump early on and has this tendency to leave his leg stump exposed. Balls that should be played towards cover are being played straight, and the bat doesn't go towards the ball's direction," Akmal was quoted as saying by PTI.

Akmal blames Pakistan management for series defeat Vs Bangladesh

Akmal also slammed the Pakistani think tank for mismanaging the spinners, who have performed for them in the past. He questioned the sudden disappearance of Noman Ali and Sajid Khan while urging the PCB to bring Yasir Shah back into the Test setup.

“Where is Yasir Shah? Isn’t he still active in first class cricket? Where has Noman Ali gone? Didn’t he take wickets? Did he get punished? He had appendicitis in Australia, got operated on, and was then sidelined. What was Usman Qadir's fault? What was Sajid Khan's fault? What was Bilal Asif's fault? All of them have taken five-wicket hauls and yet are out of the team," he added.

Pakistan's upcoming international assignments

After the disappointing series against Bangladesh, Pakistan's upcoming international assignments are crucial. They will face England in a three-match home series, followed by a challenging white-ball tour of Australia. The England Tests, in particular, hold paramount importance for Pakistan, as they are theoretically alive in the WTC final race.
