In an interesting turn of events, seasoned Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has joined the governing political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), following in the footsteps of his wife Rivaba Jadeja, who’s already a sitting MLA from the Jamnagar district of Gujarat.
Ravindra Jadeja followed his senior teammates, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, to formally announce his retirement from the T20 format a day after India’s T20 World Cup victory in Barbados.
Weeks later, Jadeja was ignored from the ODI squad for the Sri Lanka tour, which is a possible indication of his permanent snub from the white ball format.
Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja was released from the Duleep Trophy, citing workload reasons in the wake of two upcoming major home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Ravindra Jadeja to have an alternate career in politics?
Amid speculations over his future, Ravindra Jadeja, 35, joined the ruling political party, BJP, as announced by his wife, Rivaba Jadeja, earlier today on social media.
Rivaba is already a sitting BJP MLA from the Jamnagar district and has been an active member of the party since 2019. Notably, Jadeja became a BJP member through Sadasyata Abhiyaan 2024 drive launched by BJP chief JP Nadda.
Jadeja, who's at the final stage of his extensive career has been prone to injuries lately, and this latest political move could mean a significant shift in his career trajectory.
While Jadeja has not publicly confirmed his intentions to retire, his possible association with the BJP has led to discussions on whether he might soon transition away from cricket to focus on a political career.
Jadeja Likely To Be Dropped From Champions Trophy 2025
Ravindra Jadeja’s exodus from white ball format is certain as per sources, the veteran all-rounder is set to be dropped from Champions Trophy squad.
He will be either replaced by Axar Patel or Washington Sundar, depending on the team’s specific needs and overall squad combination.
Hence, Jadeja, who’s nearing Father’s time, appears to be slowly drifting away from the realms of cricket, and his latest political move only adds weight to the narrative.
