The unexpected happened as rain god decided to ruin the Indian Premier League clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens on Saturday. The first innings went quite smoothly, but the KKR chase was halted by rain as the players from both the sides went back to the dugout.

The cut-off time for a 20-over game is 10:40 PM IST, however, the rain intensity has increased and if it washes out the entire contest, how will it affect both KKR and PBKS?.

What happens if rain washes out KKR Vs PBKS match?

If the rain doesn't stop and the match gets abandoned due to rain, then both the sides will get a point each from the contest and neither of the two sides will be happy with it. With a point, PBKS will displace Mumbai Indians and will reach the 4th spot. However, MI have a game in hand tomorrow and could dethrone PBKS.

Similarly, to reach the playoffs, KKR need to win almost all of their games and one point will take them to just 7 points and it won't change their position in points tally. KKR will still be in the playoff race but then they will have to win their remaining IPL matches of the season.

However, unlike KKR, the rain won't ruin PBKS' season, but the Shreyas Iyer led side will be disappointed since the team had a golden chance to do the double over the defending champions.

When the rain stopped play, KKR were 7/0 after 1 over, still needing 195 from 114 balls to win.
