The Chennai Super Kings are having a nightmare in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The five-time champions are placed at the bottom of the points table, which is a massive setback to their legacy.
When it comes to CSK, a common myth suggests that MS Dhoni calls all the shots. But this is not true at all. As the misconception stirred up, Suresh Raina revealed that Dhoni doesn’t control everything behind the scenes.
Raina Reveals Dhoni Doesn't Control Everything
As MS Dhoni has been the strongest pillar of the Chennai Super Kings, a myth always surrounds him as the Captain Cool has the final say in every matter. However, former CSK player Suresh Raina revealed that while Dhoni may offer recommendations, he’s not the one behind every decision within the team.
“They always say MS Dhoni makes the final call. But to be very honest, I never attended any of the auctions. I was never a part of those discussions. I always talked about the players who were retained,” Raina said.
Raina Slams The Owners For Auction Strategy
Since the beginning of the tournament, CSK’s squad selection has caught the spotlight over the years. But this time, this is raising concern. Even shuffling their experienced lineup couldn’t stop the slide, as their troubles only deepened with each passing game.
CSK’s latest heartbreak against Sunrisers Hyderabad reignited the controversy around their auction choices. As the team suffered a heartbreaking defeat against the Pat Cummins and Co., Suresh Raina took a dig at the CSK owners for their questionable auction picks.
“Kashi sir – I think he has been handling the administration for almost 30 to 40 years now. And Rupa Ma’am is managing all the cricket administration – buying the players, maintaining the core group. But everyone knows that the players bought this time weren’t selected properly,” he said.
As the season turned into a forgettable one, the Chennai Super Kings faced 7 defeats and secured only 4 points. Their chances of qualifying for the playoffs now seem like a distant dream.
