'Have To Start Eating Protein' - Imam's Savage Reply On Power-Hitting Question

Imam-Ul-Haq came up with staggering remarks in Pakistan's pre-match press conference for the ICC World Cup 2023 league stage clash with Afghanistan.

Speaking to the media personnel on Sunday (October 22) in Chennai, the experienced left-hand batter spoke about lack of nutrition hurting his team's six-hitting abilities and admitted they need to boost their Protein intake.

Imam alluded to Pakistan's inability to consistently blast the opposition attacks as a case of Babar Azam's men operating on shortage of protein in their respective diets and hinted the team will replace their carbs with extra dose of protein to gain muscle for powerhitting.

Six-hitting was indeed a point of difference in Pakistan's previous league match against Australia. On a flat batting surface at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the Aussies flexed their muscles by hitting 19 maximums on their way to post an astonishing total of 367/9 in 50 overs.

Imam-Ul-Haq's Strange 'Protein' Statement

In stark contrast, Pakistan hit only six maximums during the run-chase, which fizzled out soon after the opening duo of Imam and Abdullah Shafique struck valiant half-centuries and reached 134/0 before the fall of the first wicket. Pakistan lost their 10 wickets for the remaining 171 runs.

Imam became probably the first international cricketer to openly speak to the press about deficiencies in his team's diet as a factor in their failure on the field.

The composed opening batter admitted to a lack of protein hurting Pakistan's chances to blaze away maximums against opposition attacks and leave them under the kind of pressure their bowlers have been put on in a challenging campaign.

"To try hitting sixes, we may have to start eating more protein instead of carbs." said Imam in a unique comment, which immediately caught the attention of social media, where fans pointed out Pakistan players' love for the Hyderabadi biryani upon landing in India as a potential cause of extra carbs.

Pakistan enter the game against Afghanistan in a near must-win scenario following consecutive defeats to India and Australia. The Asian giants stand fifth in the ten-team standings with two victories from four matches.
