Rohit Sharma's transition into an excellent top-order aggressor for India helped the batting stalwart achieve a special feat in the ICC World Cup 2023 match versus New Zealand in Dharamshala on Sunday (October 22).

The Indian veteran smashed his 50th maximum of the year 2023 against the BlackCaps at the start of his team's run-chase. Rohit belted Kiwi seamer Matt Henry out of the park to achieve the special landmark and also became third on the list of batters with the most sixes in a calendar year.

Only South African limited-overs legend AB de Villiers with 58 maximums in 2015 and West Indies' 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle with 56 maximums in the year 2019 were ahead of Rohit in the list at the point of his 50th six for 2023 during the Indian innings.

Given the belligerence and command on display from the Indian white-ball great these days, Rohit is in with a wonderful opportunity to move past both De Villiers and Gayle at the ongoing World Cup and put up a landmark record next to his name in the sixer count.

Rohit's Staggering Feat With The Bat

The elegant right-hander bagged the special feat in the second over of the Indian run-chase. Intent on ruffling the feathers of the much-vaunted Kiwi new-ball attack, Rohit dispatched key pacer Henry for a huge six over the cow corner. The great batter advanced at the skiddy right-arm seamer and gave him a proper whack over the deep mid-wicket region.

It was another of Rohit's rollicking starts for India at the World Cup 2023 after making a deep impact on run-chases versus Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Chasing 274 on a two-paced surface in Dharamshala, the Indian skipper recognised the moment perfectly and went after the new ball once again.

The limited-overs great blasted the pace duo of Trent Boult and Henry and dented their spirits when all the talk leading into the game was about how the New Zealand pace battery could run through the Indian top order with their ability to swing the ball both ways.

Rohit alongside his mighty promising partner Shubman Gill made a statement early on and helped India storm their way past the new-ball threat which the Kiwis are renowned for.
