The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has already been quite in the news due to Hardik Pandya moving from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians, which invited a fair share of criticism.

Unfazed, the GT management, named star player Shubman Gill as the new captain, who will look to continue the rich legacy, which Pandya created in his two years with the franchise. Former Australian cricket Brad Hogg, who played in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders, has made a bold statement that Titans won't miss the services of Pandya, who apart from being the captain, brought in expertise with both bat and ball as an all-rounder.

As quoted by India Today, the former leg-arm wrist spinner believed that Gujarat have players who can fill the void left by Pandya in the XI.

"I don't think Hardik Pandya is that big a loss really (for GT). Yes, he is a quality all-rounder in the middle order, but they can cover it. They have got really good bowling depth there. He was batting in the top order, but I don't think he was best suited there, so Gujarat Titans are better off without him," Hogg said.

Hogg further opined that Pandya will be back at his best with Mumbai Indians, where the player will in all likelihood play in the lower middle order.

"Mumbai are better off having an Indian All-rounder batting in the lower middle order and I think that's where Hardik will bat. I think we will see Hardik back at his best with Mumbai Indians," he added.

Pandya helped GT win their maiden IPL title in its debut season in 2022 and then managed to finish as runners-up in the 2023 edition before moving base back to Mumbai for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Interestingly, GT faces off against MI in their opening IPL 2024 match on March 24 at Ahmedabad.
