Hardik Pandya has requested Mumbai Indians' (MI) passionate fanbase to shed their recent disappointment and provide the comeback allrounder with the same level of support as they did when he was one of their premier match-winners in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The fast-bowling allrounder, who was a constant with the Mumbai franchise until the 2021 edition of the league, moved to Gujarat Titans (GT) the following year and formed a fruitful association, guiding them to the trophy in their very first season in 2022 and a runners-up finish in 2023.

However, in a twist of fate, just when Pandya was expected to continue taking the Titans to great heights, he became part of an infamous one-way trade with MI to become their new skipper on return, replacing the franchise's mighty successful captain Rohit Sharma

Pandya Calls For Fans' Support On MI Return

The moment MI confirmed the contentious sacking of Rohit, the franchise faced a huge backlash from the fans and experienced a major drop in its follower count on social media, signalling bemusement over Pandya's appointment as the new captain.

Speaking to Star Sports, Pandya has now urged the loyal MI supporters to accept him as their new man in charge and lavish him with same support as he used to receive during his days under the sun for the five-time champions.

"I’m deeply thankful for the immense love and support from fans. It’s a blessing beyond words. Returning to Mumbai Indians feels like coming back to where it all began. From my journey as a young lad in Baroda to Mumbai, this city has taught me growth, instilling in me humility and resilience," Pandya said.

"The city’s love and teachings are invaluable to me, shaping me into the cricketer I am today. Mumbai always challenges you to be better and now with the IPL, I have returned home after 2 years. I seek the same backing from our fans to propel us towards victory. Rest assured, I’ll ensure a thrilling season that every supporter will relish. It’s a journey we’ll all enjoy together."

Since making his debut in 2015, Pandya has featured in 85 IPL matches for the Mumbai franchise and scored 1,476 runs apart from taking 42 wickets.
