Following the thrilling third WODI between India and Bangladesh on Saturday, July 22, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Smriti Mandhana expressed that the Indian team would have relished the opportunity to participate in a Super Over, considering the match ended in a tie.

The game was a roller-coaster of emotions, swinging back and forth, captivating everyone until the last moment. However, the absence of a one-over eliminator caused controversy and left the players disappointed.

"We would love to play a Super Over and I don't think there was a question which was asked about Super Over to us. It was all decided. But we would've loved to play a Super Over. But yeah, I think, the kind of game that happened, I'm sure that it's good for women's cricket going forward," Mandhana was quoted as saying.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper, openly expressed her emotions and didn't hold back in criticising the umpiring standards. She described them as "pathetic" and voiced her team's disappointment over certain decisions made by the umpires. Kaur emphasised that her team would be better prepared to face such challenges in their future visits to Bangladesh.

Throughout the match, Kaur was visibly frustrated, especially after being given out leg before wicket by the umpire. Her dissatisfaction was evident as she engaged in an argument with the umpire, expressing her frustration by punching her bat and throwing it into the stumps before leaving the field.

"I think it's just when you play for India, you want to win the match and it happens in the heat of the moment. But I think she wasn't really happy with the decision given. And she felt that she wasn't out. So that came about. But yeah, I just feel that it's just the heat of the moment and nothing much,” Mandhana stated.

“Just knowing Harman as a person and knowing her how much she wants to win for India, I'm sure from the spirit of the game, I wouldn't say that it is (acceptable), but when you really want that W on the board for India, these things happen," she added further.

The conclusion of the match left a sour feeling, as the absence of a Super Over and the criticism of umpiring standards overshadowed the excitement of the thrilling contest.
