Yesterday at Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the Indian team continued to assert their control over the game by piling up a massive first innings total of 438. Virat Kohli's heroics helped India set up a formidable score at the board along with a commendable performances by R Jadeja and R Ashwin. The home team, West Indies exhibited a fighting spirit and determination, adding an intriguing twist to the game, with a score of 86/1.

Facing a deficit of 352 runs, West Indies had to display the same determination and resilience they exhibited during the final session on the previous day. However, they were aware that India would come back even stronger with their bowling crew. Day 3 began with full swing as the Indian bowling attack started strong.

Talking Points

That Brathwaite- McKenzie partnership

Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie accelerated WI to a great start at Day 3 with a strong partnership of 46 runs. McKenzie smashed fours at every opportunity he got against Unadkat,  and had a delightful start as a debutant. Not just Kirk but also Brathwaite cleverly created space for himself by leaning away and making room and smashed four off of Siraj.

Mukesh Kumar's heroics with the fiery red cherry

In the 52nd over, M Kumar bowled to K McKenzie, and provided India with a crucial breakthrough.

Kumar, who made his debut for India, claimed his very first Test wicket. The batter, also a debutant, tried to cut the ball while playing away from his body, but Mukesh cleverly dragged his length back, which caused the ball to move back in sharply from outside off-stump.

As a result, McKenzie edged the ball, and it went straight into the hands of Ishan Kishan. The umpire rose his finger, and Mukesh Kumar gave the Indian team a much needed celebration.

Expectations from Session 2, Day 3

With rain playing spoil sport and interrupting the first session, there are chances that the pitch would now further assist the Indian bowlers in their quest to claim the Windies wickets.

It would be interesting to see how WI batters would tackle the visiting team.
