Ceaseless rains in Manchester washed out 60 overs on Day 4 of the fourth Ashes 2023 Test Australia added just over 100 runs in a day before wet outfield called for an early stumps in the evening.

Labuschagne Australia’s only casualty on Day 4

Marnus Labuschagne, at 44*, resumed Australia’s second innings at 113-4 with overnight partner Mitchell Marsh (1*). The two batters survived nearly a session’s worth of play amidst constant rain interruptions.

Labuschagne, after reaching 80* from 153 balls, launched Joe Root with sixes and fours to race to his century within the next eight deliveries. He ultimately succumbed to Root himself during his unending quest of quick runs, to become Australia’s first and only casualty of the rain-curtailed day.

Meanwhile, Marsh kept the scoreboard ticking from his end of the crease and reached 31* from 107 balls by stumps. The star all-rounder will resume his side’s response on Day 5 with newcomer Cameron Green at the other end.

The visitors, at 214-5, still require another 61 runs to avoid an innings defeat in the fourth Test.
