In a standout moment, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a blazing knock of 101 runs off just 38 balls for RR against GT in IPL 2025. And ex-South African pacer Shaun Pollock had nothing but praise for the wonder kid.
Suryavanshi started attacking from the very beginning. He smashed 11 sixes and 7 fours, punishing bowlers like Karim Janat (30 runs in one over) and Ishant Sharma (28 runs in one over). He reached his hundred in just 35 balls, becoming the fastest Indian to score a century in the IPL.
At just 14 years and 32 days old, he became the youngest-ever player to score a T20 century and helped RR chase down 210 runs in just 15.5 overs, the fastest 200+ run chase in IPL history.
Shaun Pollock Praises Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Mind-Boggling Century
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Suryavanshi received praise from critics and fans alike from all parts of the world. He took the cricketing world by storm with a special knock at the tender age of 14.
Former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock was full of praise, calling it “the greatest-ever performance in IPL history.”
"For me, this is the greatest individual performance in the IPL, ever. It's got to be. For a 14-year-old to go out there and smash around and get a hundred off 35 balls, that has to be the greatest performance in IPL history. I thought corporate punishments for kids were done and dusted. He has come out as a schoolboy and given them some corporate punishment," Pollock said on Cricbuzz.
Australian legend Adam Gilchrist also admired Suryavanshi’s calmness and clever shot selection. He said the youngster showed power on the leg side and also displayed smart shots over square leg and through the off-side, proving he wasn’t just swinging blindly, he had real skill and control.
"I was really impressed with the calmness and shot-selection. He goes aggressively on the leg-side, that's a big strength of his. But by the end of the innings, I was impressed that he has a greater array of shots than just a slog over mid-wicket. To the spinners, getting down and getting creative to low-down lap over backward square-leg. To the quicks, he opened up a bit of an off-side game and held position. That told me he had settled into a rhythm, which allowed his natural game to come through," Gilchrist said.
Suryavanshi Makes Fearless Claim After Maiden IPL Ton
14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines after smashing an unbelievable century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
After his match-winning innings, Suryavanshi said he was feeling very happy and that all the hard practice he did over the last few months had finally paid off. This was only his third inning in the IPL, but he showed incredible confidence and maturity.
When asked if he feels pressure now that bowlers might plan against him, the teenager said he doesn’t overthink and just concentrates on his game, without worrying about things he can't control.
