The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has escalated its investigation into alleged financial irregularities during former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon’s tenure, directing the BCB to submit 26 critical documents within seven working days.
ACC officials revisited the Bangladesh Cricket Board offices this week to formally request records spanning multiple high-value projects, audits, and expenditures from 2012 to 2022.
Ex-BCB Chief's Financial Dealings Under Intense Scrutiny
The probe focuses on scrutinising financial management under Nazmul’s leadership, including the construction of Purbanchal Stadium, revenue-sharing agreements with the ICC and Asian Cricket Council, and operational costs of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The ACC also seeks clarity on overseas travel expenses for BCB officials and past internal corruption probes.
Among the specifics demanded are audit reports from Nazmul’s 10-year tenure, contracts and payment details for foreign coaches, and expenditure records for projects like ‘Cricket Celebrates Mujib-100’ and an AR Rahman concert organised by the board.
The commission further flagged expenses linked to Nazmul’s use of helicopters to attend matches and sought a full breakdown of costs for these trips.
This marks the ACC’s latest move to address long-standing allegations of financial mismanagement and graft within the BCB. The board has yet to issue a public response but is legally obligated to comply with the document request.
