David Warner nears his final Test for Australia, having batted for the last time at Melbourne Cricket Ground in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan as Cricket Australia (CA) continues to find their next red-ball opener.

Post the Sydney Test, Australia will engage in a two-Test series against the West Indies, where Usman Khawaja will play with a new opener, who, as per reports could be Cameron Green.

Apart from Green, Marcus Harris, Matt Renshaw, and Cameron Bancroft are other likely candidates.

Former captain Ricky Ponting has called the idea of promoting Green into the Top 2 'a rubbish move'. As quoted by The West Australia, Ponting has urged selectors and CA to play specialist opener and not field a make-shift replacement, keeping in mind future series.

Meanwhile, David Warner ahead of the MCG Test, backed Harris as his preferred replacement to partner Khawaja.
