After trashing the Australian women's cricket team to clinch a historic test win, the Indian women's team clashed with the mighty Aussies for the first ODI of the three-game series in Wankhede earlier today. 

Harmanpreet Kaur won the coin flip contest and opted to bat first under sunny conditions. However, her team faced early jitters as Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh returned to the hut in the power play itself.

Having said that, with Smriti Mandhana sitting out due to illness, a young Jemimah Rodriguez took it upon herself to pull her team out of the deep mess. With three wickets down at 57 runs on board, Rodriguez walked out with sheer determination and grit to guide her team to a respectable total. 



Jemimah Rodriguez Comes To India's Rescue!

The middle-order batter initially took her time to settle in. She picked her shots carefully and respected the good deliveries. However, there was no stopping Jemimah once she got settled. 

Her commendable knock of 82 runs off 77 deliveries under pressure consisted of seven boundaries. She also managed a healthy strike rate of 106.49 to bring up her fifth ODI half-century.

As the dressing room and Mumbai crowd cheered, Jemimah Rodriguez soaked in the applause and continued with her inning. 



Overall, her determined half-century guided India to a respectable total of 282 runs at the end of 50 overs.

Australia lost opener and captain Alyssa Healy in the chase as Renuka Singh removed her for a duck. However, the trouble is far from over. Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry together have etched a 50+ runs partnership and are steady in the mighty chase.

The current and required run rate is also similar, and if an Indian bowling attack fails to topple these two in the next 10 overs, the duo will surely snatch away victory from the jaws of Indian women.
