India women’s team coach Amol Muzumdar revealed his final message to the Indian women during the innings break in the semifinal against Australia. India chased down a daunting 339 to secure their place in the final of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
After India lost Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24), it seemed impossible for India to make it to the final of the World Cup by beating Australia. The onus was largely on Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues- two batters who were dealing with their own issues. Harmanpreet had to play a captain’s knock, and Rodrigues had a lot to prove. Eventually, the captain scored a gritty 89 whereas Jemimah Rodrigues remained unbeaten on 127 to complete the chase.
The team kept the cool and focused on the finishing line. Indian women’s team coach Amol Muzumdar recalled the mid-innings message that inspired the chase. In a post-match video released by the BCCI, Muzumdar said,
“We had written on the board inside the dressing room that we just need to get one more run than Australia.”
A proud coach also praised everyone for their contributions and said,
“Just amazed by what we have seen tonight. Amazing knock by Harman, Jemi, Everyone. Whatever little Smriti did was amazing too. I couldn’t have been happier. We are into the finals.”
“We all trust whatever he says.”
Meanwhile, Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur revealed that the coach had lost his cool in the dressing room after losing to England in the group stage. But she also said, “We all trust whatever he says.”
Amol Muzumdar who never played an international cricket match, took the charge of Indian women’s cricket team in October 2023. The recruitment was questioned just like it was during India’s group stage defeats against England, Australia, South Africa. But, with experience of more than 11,000 first class runs to his name, Muzumdar knew what he was doing. No wonder Harmanpreet Kaur and the team decided to trust the coach and follow his vision.
