West Indies batter Shai Hope has been signed for SA20 side Pretoria Capitals as a replacement of England all-rounder Will Jacks. Hope, who played for the IPL sister franchise of the side last year, would be now playing SA20 for the first time.
Will Jacks to miss SA20 for The Ashes
Will Jacks was set to participate in the SA20 for the Pretoria Capitals for a record fourth time. However, due to his national duties he has been removed from the tournament this year. Jacks will be busy for the Ashes scheduled to start from November 21. Jack will miss more than half of the league stage of SA20 by the end of the Ashes as the last Test of the five-match series will begin on January 4, 2026.
The England all-rounder was signed for the fourth consecutive season at the cost of ZAR 1.1 million (approximately INR 56 lakh). In 27 matches and 25 innings for Pretoria Capitals, Jacks has scored 740 runs at an average of 29.60 with a strike rate of 169.72, including two hundreds and six fifties. In the season three, he accumulated 225 runs in nine innings with a strike rate of 135.54. With the ball, he took four wickets at the economy rate of 6.47.

Shai Hope, on the other hand, will be playing SA20 for the first time. Earlier Hope played for Delhi Capitals and Dubai Capitals, the sister franchises of Pretoria in the IPL and ILT20 respectively. In his one ILT20 season with the Capitals earlier this year, the West Indies T20 captain scored 527 runs at an average of 59 to lead the franchise to their first title. In IPL 2024, Hope 183 runs in nine matches at an average of 22.87 and a strike rate of 150.
The SA20 2026 season will begin on December 26 with a match between MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants. Pretoria Capitals will begin their campaign on December 27 against Joburg Super Kings. The final of the tournament will be played on January 25, 2026.
