Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hailed the Indian women’s cricket team for their extraordinary performances in the semifinal against Australia. As India are ready to play their third ODI World Cup final, Rajeev hoped for the team to win the trophy this time.
Rajeev Shukla hopes for a "meteoric rise" for women's cricket
India created history by chasing down the highest-ever target in women’s ODIs and beat Australia in the semifinal of the ongoing World Cup. In a stunning knockout, Jemimah Rodrigues led the run-chase for India with an unbeaten 127. On November 2, India will take on South Africa for the final of the ODI World Cup 2025. For India, this will their third final of ICC Women’s World Cup. Rajeev Shukla, the BCCI vice-president lauded the team for their efforts and the spectacular victory over Australia.
"The Indian Women's Cricket Team performed brilliantly. I can see that the future of women's Cricket in India is very bright. The manner in which they beat Australia and chased such a big target they performed fantastic.”
Speaking to ANI, Rajeev also hoped that India would be able to beat South Africa to claim their maiden ODI World Cup. He believes that this will help women’s cricket see a “meteoric” growth.
“I am very hopeful that on 2nd November, we will defeat South Africa and win the final. We will be the World Cup champions. Women's Cricket team will see a meteoric rise."
BCCI secretary lauds India women for their attitude
India’s semifinal clash against Australia reflected the grit and determination of the women’s cricket team. It was the best-ever run-chase in 50-over World Cup knockout games across men’s and women’s competitions. Following the match, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia hailed the women players for their “never say die” attitude. Saikia told ANI,
"Our women are empowered in a true sense. Their commitment, determination and 'never say die' attitude are visible today and hope the winning streak will continue coming Sunday."
India will take on South Africa in the final of the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup on November 2 at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
