It was a night that will be remembered for decades, a night when the D.Y. Patil Stadium witnessed history and raw emotion. India Women pulled off the highest successful chase in Women’s ODI history as they hunted 339 against mighty Australia to storm into the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur let emotions flow after India’s stunning win

But beyond the records and milestones, what truly stole the show were the emotions that poured out once the winning runs were hit.

As Amanjot Kaur pierced the gap to seal the five-wicket win, Jemimah Rodrigues, who played the innings of her life with an unbeaten 127, sank to her knees. Teammates rushed in to lift her up and soon, the entire Indian camp was in a huddle of hugs, laughter and happy tears.

She was in tears, overcome by the weight of the moment. The usually composed Harmanpreet Kaur couldn’t hold back either. Sitting in the dugout, the Indian skipper broke down as she hugged her teammates and support staff.

It was a captain’s catharsis that summed up India’s long journey from heartbreak to glory. More than a win, it was redemption, relief and release all rolled into one.

A win for the ages

The chase itself was a rollercoaster. After a dismal start, Harmanpreet and Jemimah put on a 167-run stand that turned the game on its head. Every boundary was cheered like a festival, every run felt like a statement. When the final runs came, it was India exorcising the ghosts of the past, when they fell agonisingly short against the same opponent on multiple occasions.

For Harmanpreet and her girls, this win meant more than just a spot in the final. It meant validation. It meant history. And as they walked off the field arm in arm, smiling through the tears, it was clear that Indian women’s cricket had just crossed its biggest milestone yet.
