Gautam Gambhir recently assumed the role of head coach for Team India, succeeding esteemed predecessors such as Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.

Acknowledging the significant legacy left by his forerunners, Gautam Gambhir expressed his commitment to maintaining the team's high standards.

"These are big shoes to fill," Gambhir stated during a press conference in Mumbai on Monday.

I am taking over a very successful team: Gambhir

"I aim to create a happy and secure dressing room. I am taking over a very successful team, which was the runner-up in the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup. I am looking forward to the challenge," he said.

Supporting Gambhir will be Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, both of whom will serve as assistant coaches.

"I have worked closely with Abhishek and Ryan over the last two months in the IPL with KKR. They are consummate professionals, and I am hopeful they will contribute to a successful stint with the Indian team," Gambhir noted.

Rahul Dravid's tenure concluded after India's thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, ending a 17-year wait for the prestigious trophy.

Gambhir's first major assignment as head coach will be the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, featuring T20Is and ODIs starting on July 27.
