Gautam Gambhir, who will begin his journey as India's next head coach on Saturday, has got Ravi Shastri's back. The former India head coach, who saw significant success at Team India, particularly alongside Virat Kohli, mentioned that Gambhir is the best man for the job now, particularly at this age.

In a recent interview with The ICC Review, Shastri highlighted that how Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by example in a dominant IPL 2024 triumph. In addition, Shastri also highlighted Gambhir knows anything and everything about India's white-ball players, which would be a major boost for the country with him at the helm.

Ravi Shastri Backs Gautam Gambhir For India's Job

"He's contemporary, he just had a great season in the IPL. I think he's the right age where he's young, he'll come with fresh ideas. He knows most of the players, especially in the white-ball format, having been part of teams in the IPL. So I think it's refreshing,” Shastri told Sanjana Ganesan on the The ICC Review's latest episode.

Furthermore, Shastri explained how Gambhir tackles the situation in every scenario, which helped him to achieve reasonable success already in a short career as a leader in the dressing room.

"And we know with Gautam, he's a no-nonsense guy. He'll have his ideas as well. And the good thing for him is he's got a mature team. He's got a settled team, a mature team. I think even though you might think you're mature, you might benefit from some fresh ideas. So I think it'll be interesting times. Obviously, player management becomes the key as a coach. So it'll be interesting to see how he goes. I think he's got the tools, he's got the goods for the job and he's got the experience," he added.

Gambhir will have a three-match T20I series in Sri Lanka as his first full-time assignment, with Suryakumar Yadav beginning his journey as full-time T20I captain.
