Indian cricket's new era finally kick-started today, with Gautam Gambhir 'officially' taking over the command as the new head coach.

His first assignment commences on July 27, with the Indian team taking on Sri Lanka in a 3-match T20I series, followed by the ODI leg, which starts from August 2.

The T20I team, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, reached the Sri Lankan shores on Monday evening, and a visual surfaced of them reaching the team hotel.

The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are a part of the ODI team will join the squad, a couple of days later. The series provides a great chance for new coach, Gambhir, to start his era on a winning note. Apart from Gambhir, his new coaching team has also landed in Sri Lanka, which includes - assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar and bowling coach - Sairaj Bahutule.

The T20I squad was announced a few days ago, with Suryakumar pipping, front-runner Hardik Pandya for the position of captain. Also, the selectors made an interesting choice by naming Shubman Gill as the vice-captain for the T20Is.

The T20 World Cup winning core remains the same for the series, with only Jasprit Bumrah given the rest.

The first game of the white-ball series takes place on August 27, at Pallekele.
