In a tense chase against Australia in the Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final, India Women put up a spirited fight. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues stitched a 167-run partnership for the third wicket.

Batting first, Phoebe Litchfield scored a sensational 119 off 93 balls with a strong supporting knock from Ellyse Perry, who made 77 off 88 balls.

Their 155-run stand for the second wicket laid the foundation for Australia’s massive total of 338.

Harmanpreet Kaur-Jemimah Rodrigues script record partnership

When India began their chase, they lost Shafali Verma early for 10 and then Smriti Mandhana for 24, leaving fans anxious.

However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and young talent, Jemimah Rodrigues took over the innings from 59/2 and both played with poise and flare as they rebuilt the innings.

They calmed their nerves and crafted a gritty partnership, taking one run at a time. Harmanpreet looked like her vintage self, scoring an outstanding 89 off 88 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes.

Jemimah provided a determined and confidence innings, unbeaten on 90 off 103 deliveries, anchoring the innings perfectly.

Together, the duo added an unbeaten 167-run stand for the third wicket, the highest-ever partnership in India vs Australia matchups in Women’s ODI World Cup history.

Highest partnerships for any wicket for India vs Australia in Women’s ODI World Cups:

  • 167 – Harmanpreet Kaur & Jemimah Rodrigues, DY Patil, 2025 (for 3rd wicket),
  • 157 – Mithali Raj & Punam Raut, Bristol, 2017 (for 2nd wicket)
  • 155 – Smriti Mandhana & Pratika Rawal, Visakhapatnam, 2025 (for 1st wicket)

It surpassed the previous record held by Mithali Raj and Punam Raut (157 in 2017). But this partnership kept India’s hopes alive, and the crowd at DY Patil roared with every boundary.

Australia tried every trick by bringing back Kim Garth, Gardner, and Alana King, but Jemimah’s elegance and Harmanpreet’s controlled aggression frustrated them.

Harmanpreet Kaur misses a deserved hundred

However, just when India Women appeared comfortable, captain Harmanpreet Kaur lost her wicket to Annabel Sutherland. She missed her century by 11 runs, walking back on 89 off 88 balls.

Regardless, Jemimah Rodrigues is still on the crease, scoring a hundred off 115 balls. India still need close to 70 runs in the last 8 overs to win and advance to the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
