India is playing against Australia in the 2nd T20I of the five-match series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 31, 2025. Earlier in the match, Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first. India struggled to build partnerships and was bowled out for just 125 runs. The lone standout was young opener Abhishek Sharma, who played a dazzling knock of 68 runs off 37 balls at a strike rate of 183.78.
Chasing 126, the Australian openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head gave their side a blistering start, putting together 51 runs off just 28 balls. Their aggressive approach looked set to take the game away from India early on. However, the breakthrough came in the fifth over, when spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was introduced into the attack.
He dismissed Travis Head after brilliant fielding from Tilak Varma near the long-off boundary. The effort instantly reminded fans of Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic catch from the 2024 T20 World Cup final.
Tilak Varma’s stunning catch
Varun bowled a good-length delivery on the stumps, and Travis Head tried to loft it straight down the ground. The shot seemed destined for a six, but Tilak Varma moved swiftly to his left, kept his eyes on the ball, and took the catch cleanly while balancing near the boundary rope.
Realising his momentum would carry him behind the rope, Tilak flicked the ball up in the air, crossed over the boundary and quickly stepped back inside to complete the catch.
A Catch similar to Suryakumar Yadav’s 2024 Heroics
Tilak’s incredible catch drew comparisons to Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. SKY had grabbed a high ball from David Miller on the boundary line, flicking it in the air before stepping back in to complete a sensational dismissal that sealed India’s title victory.
