Shubman Gill did what many cannot do on English soil, especially on their debut as a captain, which is racking up a massive 585 runs in two matches across his 4 innings. Sure, he was a delight for Test fans however, England's assistant coach Marcus Trescothick, a legendary veteran with the bat himself, had a different opinion.
Marcus shared that he is 'fed up of' watching Shubman Gill bat. Notably, Gill was at the crease for a long time anchoring for India with his stands of 161 and 269 at Edgbaston. However, Trescothick was a bit sarcastic with his comment there.
Trescothick Admires Shubman Gill's Incredible Consistency!
Speaking of Shubman Gill's Marathon innings across the Test match, Marcus expressed his admiration for the Indian skipper.
“Well, I’m fed up of watching him (Shubman Gill) bat, really. As much as I like watching batters get runs. He has played brilliantly well, superbly well in both games, but in particular in this game here. Getting sort of 250 and then another 150, now that’s pretty special,” Marcus told BBC, as quoted by The Indian Express.
With such a humongous volume of runs, Gill easily shattered many milestones and records which included having the highest individual score by a visiting captain in England in Tests, which particularly marked his dominance on English conditions.
“The volume of runs, not many people have done that, so you’ve got to admire his dedication, his concentration, his fitness and his skill level to come out and do it. So, it’s got to be well played,” added Marcus.
India Need To Press England With Wickets After Gill's Stand
Meanwhile, as Day 4 draws to a close at Edgbaston, India has set England a gargantuan target of over 600 runs, thanks to Shubman Gill's knocks, effectively placing the home side under immense pressure. With Ben Stokes and his team navigating to 72/3 by stumps, the match teeters on a knife's edge, moving towards a potential stalemate.
India's path to victory now hinges on its pace trio, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna, who will need to deliver a match-winning spell and claim quick wickets to seal the historic win.
