At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is already making headlines in the world of cricket. The young batting sensation from India has taken the ongoing five-match Youth ODI series against England A by storm. And now, he has set his sights even higher, aiming to become the first-ever cricketer to score a double century in Youth ODIs.

Inspired By Shubman Gill’s Double Delight

Vaibhav’s ambition isn’t without inspiration. He recently revealed that India's Test captain, Shubman Gill, had a big impact on him. Shubman scored a stunning 269 and 161 runs in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, an achievement that left many in awe, including young Vaibhav.

Speaking after his record-breaking century, Vaibhav said,

“I didn’t know I had made a record. Team manager Ankit sir told me that I have… I was very inspired by him (Shubman Gill) because I saw the game," Suryavanshi said in a video interview with the BCCI. “Even after scoring 100 and 200, he kept at it and took the game forward. So, I also had it in mind that I could have batted for longer because there was a lot of time, 20 overs were left. I could have extended my innings but there was a shot that I couldn’t connect 100% which is why I got out, otherwise I would have tried to bat as long as him."

Instead of celebrating, Vaibhav already has his next goal in mind:

“Everyone said congratulations but rest I’ll see when I get to the hotel! (Laughs) There won’t be any extra celebrations, I’ll just be happier for doing something good for the team. I will speak to my family and friends and try to score 200 next time. I’ll try to play all 50 overs because the more runs I score, the more my team will benefit."

The Rise Of A Young Cricket Star

Vaibhav’s rise has been remarkable. Earlier this year, he became the youngest player to score a T20 century and also set the record for the fastest century by an Indian in the IPL. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he amazed fans with a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans.

In the latest match, even though his partner was dismissed early, Vaibhav stayed calm and confident. He scored a blazing 143 off 78 balls, hitting 13 fours and 10 sixes, helping India recover and build a strong total.

Last year, Vaibhav also scored the second-fastest century in Men’s Youth Tests, hitting 100 in just 56 balls against Australia U19. This incredible consistency shows why many are calling him a “generational talent.”
